BIO

Working from my workshop in the Welsh borders, I create a range of stone work by commission and my own design. Inspired by the letter cutting of 18th century headstones, I aim to continue and celebrate the tradition of letter cutting, as well as exploring and carving natural forms that compliment and reflect the world around them.

Following a degree in Art History at Manchester University, where my study into 12th and 13th century cathedrals sparked a keen interest in masonry and architecture, I completed a City and Guilds in Stonemasonry at Weymouth College. Then later working on Salisbury Cathedral I completed a fellowship with the Society of Ancient Buildings where I discovered and practiced the letter cutting which has shaped my career today.

I search local quarries for workable natural stone which I use to create natural bowls, benches and standing stones. I have my own collection of original work, as well as creating pieces on commission.
